Questions about the points test
- What is the minimum points score for Australia PR?
- You need at least 65 points to submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect. Invitation rounds are competitive and often require a higher score depending on your occupation.
- How many points does state nomination add?
- Subclass 190 state or territory nomination adds 5 points. Subclass 491 regional nomination or eligible family sponsorship adds 15 points — you cannot claim both.
- Is there a cap on skilled employment points?
- Yes. Australian and overseas skilled employment points are combined and capped at a maximum of 20 points.
- Does reaching 65 points guarantee an invitation?
- No. Meeting the minimum threshold only allows you to submit an Expression of Interest. Occupation lists, skills assessment, English evidence and invitation ranking all still apply.
